What Is Avalanche?
Avalanche is a blockchain platform designed for speed, scalability, and interoperability. Its Primary Network includes three built-in blockchains—the X-Chain, C-Chain, and P-Chain—and the AVAX token powers fee payment, staking, and network participation.
What Can You Do With Avalanche?
You can use AVAX to pay network fees, stake or delegate to help secure the network, and interact with applications across Avalanche's ecosystem. AVAX also plays a role in the broader Avalanche architecture that supports custom L1 blockchains.
How Much Is One AVAX Worth?
The value of AVAX fluctuates based on market demand, overall crypto sentiment, staking demand, and adoption across Avalanche apps and infrastructure. Check our platform for live AVAX pricing before you buy or sell.
When Did Avalanche Start?
Avalanche mainnet launched in September 2020. Since then, the network has expanded around a performance-focused model built on fast finality, validator participation, and app-specific blockchain infrastructure.
Is Avalanche a Good Investment?
AVAX may appeal to buyers who want exposure to a blockchain ecosystem focused on speed, staking, and customizable infrastructure. The investment case is tied to continued developer adoption, ecosystem activity, and Avalanche's ability to compete with other major smart-contract platforms.
Tell us the C-Chain address, not the X or P one
Avalanche's primary network is three chains at once: the C-Chain for smart contracts, which uses Ethereum-style 0x addresses; the X-Chain for asset transfers, prefixed X-; and the P-Chain for staking and coordination, prefixed P-. Almost everything happens on the C-Chain and that is where you want AVAX delivered. If you give an X- or P- address the transfer will not behave the way you expect. Moving between the three afterwards is free and takes seconds inside your own wallet, but it is a step you would rather not need.
Subnets are the actual product
Avalanche's pitch is not that its main chain is fastest — it is that anyone can launch their own chain with its own validators, its own rules, and its own gas token, while still connecting to the Avalanche network. That is how institutions have used it for permissioned deployments where a public chain would be unusable. AVAX secures the primary network and is required to validate, so the token's demand is tied to how many of those subnets exist and how much they need to settle.
