    How it works

    How to sell Stellar

Selling Stellar with Anytime Capital takes only a few minutes:

    1. Enter the amount of Stellar you want to sell.
    2. Choose how you want to be paid — bank transfer, debit card, or one of the other payout methods.
    3. Copy the memo from the payout screen along with the address. A Stellar payment without it lands in a pooled account with nothing to identify it.
    4. Send your XLM to the address shown, then complete verification if you have not already.
    5. Receive your money.

The memo is how Stellar knows the payment is yours

Stellar accounts cost a reserve to create, so exchanges and payment providers pool customer deposits into one account and use the memo field to tell them apart. Send XLM without the memo and the payment is valid, confirmed and completely anonymous from the recipient's point of view — resolving it means a manual investigation against timestamps and amounts. Copy the memo with the address every time, take it from the current payout screen rather than a previous one, and paste it into your wallet's memo field rather than into a note.

The base reserve stops you emptying the account

Every Stellar account must hold a minimum XLM balance to exist, with additional reserve required for each subentry the account owns — every trustline you have added, every offer you have placed. That reserved XLM is not spendable. It is why an attempt to sell your entire balance fails with an error about the minimum balance even though the wallet shows enough. Sell the available portion. If you want the reserve back you would have to close trustlines and eventually merge the account, which is a deliberate and separate operation.

Trustlines: why you cannot just receive any asset

Stellar requires you to explicitly opt in to holding an asset before anyone can send it to you — that opt-in is a trustline, and it consumes part of your reserve. This is unusual, and it means a Stellar wallet cannot be spammed with unwanted tokens the way an Ethereum address can. It also means that if you have accumulated trustlines for assets you no longer hold, you are carrying reserve for nothing. Removing them frees that XLM up, which is worth doing before a full sale.

    What Stellar was built for

Stellar has run since 2014 and was designed for cross-border payments and asset issuance rather than general computation, using a federated consensus protocol instead of mining or staking. Ledgers close every three to five seconds, the fee is 0.00001 XLM per operation, and there is no mining reward — the network's inflation mechanism was switched off by validator vote in 2019, and the Stellar Development Foundation burned a large portion of the supply that November. That burn is why historical supply figures for XLM look so different from current ones.

How long does it take to send XLM to us?

Stellar settles on Stellar, where a transfer typically confirms in 3–10 seconds. Stellar closes a ledger about every 5 seconds and transactions are final on inclusion — transfers land in seconds for a fee of 0.00001 XLM. Like XRP, the only real wait is the receiving platform's crediting process, and the only real risk is a forgotten memo on exchange deposits. We start your payout once the transfer has confirmed on-chain, so this is the part of a sale you are usually waiting on.

What does it cost to send XLM?

That is a Stellar network fee, paid to the network rather than to us: The base fee is 0.00001 XLM per operation — effectively free at any 2025–2026 price. See /fees-and-limits for what Anytime Capital charges.

Does sending XLM need a memo?

Yes. Exchanges pool XLM and USDC-on-Stellar deposits in shared wallets and use the memo field to route funds to your account. Depositing to an exchange without the memo strands the funds in the platform's pooled wallet until support manually intervenes. Sends to self-custody wallets need no memo. Send XLM without it and the transfer can be credited to the wrong account or lost, so copy both the address and the memo from the payout screen.

What do XLM addresses look like?

Public key: Starts with G (56 characters). Exchange deposits usually require an accompanying memo Check the first and last characters against the address on the payout screen before you send — a Stellar transfer cannot be reversed once it is confirmed.
